Repurposed cotton T shirts, pulped and sprayed

Overfold repurposes donated cotton T-shirts into sculptural works that address fast fashion’s environmental impact.
The title references geological overfolds structures formed by compressive forces within the earth and mirrors my making process. I cut the garments and process them through a Hollander beater, breaking down fabric into fine pulp suspended in water. Using a large mould and deckle, I form sheets that I fold and crease while wet, creating dimensional structures. Coloured pulp is then sprayed onto the peaks, capturing indexical marks of my hand and the folds beneath, before pressing.
The resulting works possess a photographic quality, with light and shadow created through layered pulp, while maintaining a distinctly textured, sculptural surface. My practice is process-driven and deeply connected to embodied experience, transforming disposable materials into something permanent through sustained physical engagement with material.
