Relief on Japanese paper

I am a Meanjin/Brisbane printmaker deeply rooted in the vibrant ecology and local environs of the Brighton wetlands, Moreton Bay, Queensland. This scroll, Coastal Guardian is a bold, audacious provocation – a distilled vision representing a dialogue between the audience and a wise, sentient mangrove.
This life-size mangrove is majestic and presents a stark reality of our future. It challenges viewers to confront the uncomfortable truth of climate change, particularly the imminent threat of a 300mm seawater rise.

This print is a call to action, aiming to empower the audience to understand the urgency of protecting, respecting, and caring for our Country and the grave dangers facing coastal mangroves in Moreton Bay. Once you’ve encountered a life-size mangrove on the brink of climate-induced demise, it asks,

“What steps will you take to alleviate its plight?”
