Trepidation and Uncertainty (diptych)

There is a sombre silence like a slow-moving funeral procession. A sense of gloom and devastation can become a challenging image. This in turn can become a beautiful image, permitting us to concentrate on broader issues.
I have used torn paper shapes and textures made from past drawings and mixed media works, to convey an anxiety about our failing waterways and our struggling environments. These shapes are like flotsam and jetsam but not from a shipwreck. They are from our degrading landscapes including the polar regions. They are also representing our disparate and confused thought processes, well mine anyway, regarding the vast amounts of information presented to us.
They are quiet and slow moving. We hardly notice them. Then we do. There is a floating numbness, a false sense of peace and safety. Then there’s panic. Then there’s a calm to which we once again surrender.
