The embedding of my etchings in books for this work suggesting an intimate, archival presentation, inviting viewers to engage with the work as both art and historical record and knowledge.
The bookworks are finished with a layer of encaustic, a classic beeswax varnish, and then framed, indicating the precious, fragile and timeless nature of art and knowledge, while at the same time making other book pages inaccessible to view. The irony of this archival presentation suggests that knowledge and history is often framed as definitive, rather than mutable, diverse, ambiguous and inconclusive.
