Carbon on Paper

Arc, Ark explores drawing as both observation and invention, a way of constructing alternate worlds born from the natural environment yet reimagined on paper. Baroque-inspired, I use heightened contrasts and theatrical illumination to transform the everyday into something staged and luminous. The arc-like boundary encloses the scene as a reliquary of sorts, preserving and revealing its interior world. Within this frame, feather-like foliage and textured surfaces suggest tiny suspended landscapes that echo the grandeur of wider scenes, small worlds held delicately, alive with organic rhythm.

Working with carbon’s tonal depth, I invite the image to unfold as both environment and drama: a landscape contained yet rich with detail. The mirrored water doubles this effect, reflecting nature’s complexity now captured as a delicate, intimate world of trees, small and precious, inviting focused attention to natures quiet wonder.
