Habitat 134- Twenty-One Nests

Pastel and charcoal on paper

Much of my work is informed by the natural world including the flora and fauna of Australia. As part of a long-term ongoing project, I paint and draw the empty nests of birds as habitat which represent environmental issues in several ways:

  • the absence of occupants- which speaks to the extinction crisis within Australia and worldwide.
  • the use of man-made materials that are likely to increase due to the environmental issues of plastics and refuse.
  • habitat loss from bushfires.
  • introduced species known to kill occupants and/or commandeer the habitat.

This work is of 21 Nests and took several months to create.

  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 1120 x 760 x 10 mm
  • Price: $14,000
