Shape Shifter No.2 II

Watercolour

In my recent series Shape Shifters, I am exploring the transformative and energetic presence of plants, using watercolour to evoke their capacity to evolve into new forms.
For more than a decade, my art practice has been immersed in the botanicals of the Northern Rivers region, evolving from detailed observations of nature’s forms, to discovering the less tangible aspects of plant life.
Plants are not static, they are in constant motion, shifting through cycles of growth, decay, and renewal, and I seek to capture this process of metamorphosis and the energy fields that extend and communicate beyond a plant’s physical structure.
The fluid washes and layered transparencies echo the way a plant’s aura might shift, dissolve, and reappear, revealing glimpses of their mutable essence and unique presence in time and space. In this way, plants become shape shifters, beings that move between states, from the visible to the invisible.
