Walking these ancient pathways, I acknowledge those past travellers – the indigenous populations who cared for and tread lightly on the terrain, those that followed with axes, farming machinery and families whose actions will take generations to recover, if they ever do.

Now my generation have the power to make a difference. Specific geographical awareness brings an aesthetic and emotional response from me, a sense of awe and loss at the same time, the dichotomy of strength and vulnerability akin to us both, that we can never return to what was, like the Welsh Hiraeth.

“A spiritual longing for a home which maybe never was. Nostalgia for ancient places to which we cannot return. It is the echo of the lost places of our soul’s past and our grief for them. It is in the wind and the rocks, and the waves. It is nowhere and it is everywhere.”
