TERMS & CONDITIONS

Entries close: 15 October 2025, 6pm  

Applications must be received online on or before this time. Late entries will not be considered.

1. Artists must be residing primarily in Australia. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists are encouraged to apply.

2. For the purposes of this prize, a “work on paper” is defined as a work made on or with paper as the primary medium. This work may be two or three dimensional.

3. All works submitted for the Award must be original works by the artist whose name appears on the entry form and completed in 2024 or 2025.

4. By entering this prize, the artists confirms that that their artwork does not infringe on the copyright of anyone else.

5. There is a limit of two entries per artist. A receipt will be issued for each entry. Please note that only one artwork per artist will be selected for exhibition.

6. Artists must submit this entry form with:

a) A non-refundable administration fee of $40

b) A one-page Curriculum Vitae

c) An artist’s statement about each work submitted (up to 150 words each).  A maximum of two artist statements may be uploaded – one for each work.

d) Up to two images of each of the actual work/s must be submitted and one of these must represent the work in its entirety for judging (upto 4 images, if submitting 2 works).

The artwork size should not exceed the following size limits:

Height: 4000mm
Width: 6000mm
Depth: 100mm

f) The image must be a high resolution (300dpi) JPG digital file.

The file size of each image is not to exceed 10MB. 

Only JPG images will be accepted.

7. File names are to be in the following format:

a) SURNAME_FIRSTNAME_IMAGETITLE
b) SURNAME_FIRSTNAME_STATEMENT
c) SURNAME_FIRSTNAME_CV

8. Entries are to be submitted online via the Wama Foundation website https://wamafoundation.com.au/wama-art-prize/  If you require support in submitting online, or have access needs, please contact Wama by email info@wamafoundation.com.au

9. Wama employees and members of the Wama Foundation Ltd’s Board are ineligible to enter the prize.

10. Additional support material that is not requested will not be accepted or returned.

11. The artwork details entered on the Wama Art Prize, Works on Paper entry form are final and no changes can be made.

SELECTION CRITERIA

12. A pre-selection committee will select the finalists. Only artworks chosen as finalists will be exhibited.

13. Please note, no substitutes for works entered will be accepted and no correspondence will be entered into once the decision is reached and applicants have been notified.

14. The Selection Criteria for finalists (and the winning work) will include consideration of the goals of the Wama Foundation, in particular to foster inspiration, exploration and celebrate the interconnection between art and the natural environment.

ABOUT WAMA FOUNDATION

Wama’s National Centre for Environmental Art is Australia’s first space dedicated to environmental art – showcasing and reflecting on artistic narratives concerning the natural world.

Wama provides opportunities to engage with nature and environmental art, showcasing and reflecting on artistic narratives concerning the natural world. We believe it should challenge how we feel, how we see the world, and how we choose to live in it.

We hope to catalyse deeper conversations about the state of the natural world, and our place within it.

EXHIBITION

15. This exhibition will be displayed at Wama’s National Centre for Environmental Art from Friday 28th November to Monday 9, 2026, with an opening event and announcement of winners at the gallery on Friday 28th November.

16. Finalists’ works are to be delivered to Wama’s National Centre of Environmental Art during the week commencing 10 – 14 November

17. Delivery and collection of works are to be organised by artist.

18. Final judging will take place on Thursday 27th November 2025.

19. All works submitted must be available for purchase through the exhibition

20. All quoted sales prices must include sales commission and GST (where applicable)

21. Wama Foundation Ltd will receive 30% of sale price as commission on each sale.

JUDGING

22. The panel of judges for the Award will include:

* Dr Vicki Couzens, Artist and Keerray Woorrong Gunditjmara woman
* Anne Virgo OAM, CEO and Artistic Diector of Australian Print Workshop
* Suzanne Davies, Contemporary Art Director and Curator
* Dr Jacqueline Healy, Wama Foundation Board Director

23. The judging panel shall solely determine the prize-winning entry. However, the judging panel and the Wama Foundation Ltd. reserve the right not to award the prize.

24. The judging panel’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into. (See Point 14 for Selection Criteria)

REPRODUCTION OF WORKS AND STATEMENTS

25. Copyright of the artwork remains the property of the entrant. Finalists specifically permit and authorise Wama to reproduce their work and artist’s statement by print of electronic/social media for publicity purposes, reports, catalogues and any other publications and promotion related to Wama for a period of five years from the exhibition closing date. Due attribution will be made to the artist.
