Climate change and the grief of solastalgia – losing our natural world to climate change and bearing witness to that loss preoccupies my art practice. I document the overnight utter destruction of my local forest in Mirboo North because of a climate change induced vicious storm cell in 2024.

Using a large mobile camera obscura made from a box trailer, I situated it in front of sites of forest devastation. Sitting inside the trailer in the dark, I meditated upon the inverted reflections and painted over the images on paper with acrylic paint. The act of painting in the dark was abstract and intuitive as if trying to restore the forest back to life. Digital images of the combined reflection and painting were printed as final works. I hope to urge others to dwell upon the significance of losing our beloved environment to climate change and take immediate restorative action.
