A Cockatoo Tale

Etching, dyed papers, stitching

In my art practice I focus on the inextricable links between our fauna and bird life, and the natural environments that support their existence. One cannot thrive without the other.
This Artist Book has been created to highlight the threatened existence of the Red tail Black Cockatoo of South West Australia. The emotive words are voiced to us by ‘Karak’, a female cockatoo. She describes the dangers facing her and future cockatoo generations and pleads with us to intervene.
“I, Karak, beseech mankind, please hear me.
Do not turn away indifferent, unhearing.
When will you shout loud for me, Karak? I am bereft.”

This book has used mineral dyed papers, original etching and archival prints. Each page is shaped as a feather, and as we handle their memorable curves, we are drawn into a world facing collapse.
