Acrylic, charcoal and fire ash on arches watercolour paper

Aftermath reflects the haunting silence that followed the devastation of the 2025 Gariwerd (Grampians) fires.
Created with acrylic, charcoal and fire ash on Arches watercolour paper, the work captures the Grampians in the raw days after the blaze. A landscape stripped bare, eerily still and void of birdsong or movement. The once abundant native bushland became a study in greys and ochres, stark yet strangely beautiful in its austerity.
For those of us living in the shadow of the Grampians, the fires were not distant events but lived experiences. The anxious watching and waiting, the helpless witnessing of devastation unfold.
This piece stands as both remembrance and reflection, a meditation on loss, resilience and the quiet power of nature which endures, even in the face of destruction.
