Watercolour on Paper

Chasing Tails contemplates the entanglement of care, control, and consequence within the Australian landscape. Cats and rabbits, both being introduced species, carry histories of displacement and dominance; echoes of our own interventions in the natural world. Their presence becomes a mirror for human desire: to nurture, to possess, to reshape what we love. Through this lens, the work reflects on invasion not only as an ecological act but as a psychological one — the way boundaries blur between affection and harm, belonging and intrusion.
I’m drawn to the paradox of wanting to protect what we have unsettled and to restore what we have altered. Watercolour, with its fluid unpredictability, embodies that tension, a balance between control and release. Chasing Tails becomes an allegory for our relationship with the wild: cyclical, unresolved, and continually asking who is holding onto whom.
