lino on 5 pianola rolls

This series of five lino-printed pianola rolls depicts the Kanimbla Valley, west of the Blue Mountains, where the Coxs River winds between two sandstone escarpments, where our family farm lay on the Cullenbenbong.
The twisting river is lined with sheoaks and granite boulders, and traces an ancient geological story carved by time. The series is printed from two lino blocks drawn freehand from topographic maps, over printed to conceal the contours of the valley and river, and the shear escarpments at one thousand metres, to reveal what could be the dark night sky above this place. The process evokes both the physical and metaphysical layers of landscape — the seen and the felt.
This work continues my fascination with rivers explored with historical and geographical research to engage with the landscape of the place.
