photomontage screen print

Dingo is a photomontage screen print on Fabriano Rosaspina 285gsm paper. The image lists the names of the dingo in First Nations languages across Australia. Dingoes are classified a pest species across much of Australia, and eradication is often mandatory. They have recently gained protection in the north-west of Victoria where they are listed as vulnerable to extinction. Dingoes are a Cultural Keystone Species, of significant status to First Nations people of Australia, as companions, kin, and as top order predator.
Historically, interconnections between nature and culture played an essential role in the maintenance of biodiversity and ecosystem health. The marginalization of cultural and ecological keystones results in the degradation of ecosystems, the loss of traditions and cultural diversity. The montage includes details from an 19th century intaglio landscape and type, with the artists photo of a captive dingo from Healesville Sanctuary in the foreground.
