Ephemeral Dawn

Emily Lowe

2025

Acrylic and imitative gold leaf

An Eastern Grass Owl flies over the plains where it spent the night hunting. These creatures are powerfully whimsical sacred birds that should be protected and honoured. I wanted this work to emulate their intricate beauty and strength moving through the peaceful illumination brought by dawn.

I have grown a passion for the diversion of artist waste from landfill by aesthetically placing it within my art. Hidden in the under layers are old high quality artist paints that were used to build up form and texture. The metal paint tube was used in another work, as one of many up-cycling practices.

I am not only passionate about waste innovation, but also the way in which we connect and celebrate nature in the hopes of inspiring conservation.
