Forest (Wollemi)

Watercolour on paper

Forest (Wollemi) is the largest work I have ever made. Like all my work, it was made on site in the landscape. In this case, at the Wollemi National Park during a residency. The large scale of the work relates to a real lifeexperience of being present to place: a sense of immersion. Landscape becomes environment.

I have sought to convey by varied mark making a tactile sense of biodiversity: the abundant variety of fauna in this forest features flowering plants and majestic eucalypts. The white of the paper support evokes the ancient rocks, light and space: my painting is a testament to the splendour of nature.
