Let’s Dance – Crested Pigeons

Colour pencil and graphite

Crested pigeons are in our gardens and parks; they are all around us. We are surrounded by beautiful birds and flowers, moments that we hardly notice. These pigeons look like insignificant brown or grey birds most of the time. But when they are in the full sun and dancing, their iridescent feathers come alive. They are a symphony of colour, perfectly dressed for their beautiful mating dance. She looks interested and he looks so proud and gorgeous. A private and special moment in a bird’s life.

Capturing and sharing the ‘small’ moments in our personal space is my inspiration. I‘ve drawn the pigeons in full colour surrounded by the graphite leaves to create a contrast that focuses the viewer on the birds and their dance. My hand cut layer gives added depth to the ground when you get up close.

Nature and a pencil are a perfect combination.
