Reused ballpoint pens on sketchbook paper

Mindscape subtly depicts the aftermath of ongoing bushfires on rural bushland, representing the degeneration and regeneration of life. Drawn in monochrome, the darkened spots of burnt trees and harsh contrasting sunlight are emphasized within an expansive recovering ecosystem. The drawing preserves the intimate sensory experience of travelling through healing bushland along a bumpy roadway. Trees stand both barren and leaved, shrubbery sprouting, presenting the simultaneous fragility and resilience of nature in different stages of damage. It transforms into a visual mindscape of people’s attitudes towards global warming and environmental neglect, where ecosystems and life improves as people adapt lifestyles and shift mindsets. Chances of ongoing recovery and preservation form down the road, albeit amongst a gloomy backdrop. The artist drew her homeland with reused collected ballpoint pens, documenting her interaction with this environment and concentrating on the human’s interconnected relationship with natural conditions to represent the human experience and impact.
