Moment #50

Gesso, gouache, watercolour, rain and crayon on archival paper

My practice is inspired by the vast sky that surrounds my home in San Remo, Victoria. I create works which are often described as atmospheric, ethereal, and hazy, inviting viewers to shift between the realms of formlessness and structure while aiming to capture the transient beauty and atmosphere of my natural surroundings.
Moment #50 is the outcome of my exploration into how paint can be manipulated to embody natural processes, evoking the atmosphere, and how I can conjure the immaterial by working in collaboration with the natural forces playing out on the painting surface. The process involved wetting the ground with pigmented water and then holding it under the rain, often in windy conditions to capture a representation of the weather, before working over the piece with crayon.
