Offerings: Seeds of K’gari

Timber, handmade botanical paper, kombusha pelleicle

This work uses fifteen kinds of botanical paper made by the artist over two decades of systematic enquiry into the papermaking potential of many local plants.

The seeds represent species native to K’gari which need to be planted to replace the many trees destroyed by the 2020 fires. The “button” branch cross sections are from branches of the Bunya tree while the tiny saw blade represents the millions of superfeet of timber extracted from K’gari’s forests over 130 years of logging.
