Carbon, Pen and Ink on Paper

Outcrop at Kosciuszko is a mixed media work on paper depicting an outcrop of rocks encircled by snow beneath a muted grey sky. Rendered in monochromic tones, it conveys the pared-back clarity and quiet endurance of the alpine landscape. The absence of colour deepens its cold, still atmosphere, inviting pause within that stillness of the high country where time seems suspended and form resolves into line, light, and shadow.

Positioned between two abstracted, mesh-like works, Outcrop forms part of a wider meditation on place and perception. The surrounding surfaces suggest a more chaotic external world of shifting patterns and restless energy. Within this framing, the natural scene becomes a point of quietude, a grounded presence held between abstraction and flux.
Through this interplay of realism and abstraction, Outcrop reflects on the ebb and flow of life, the chaos the surrounds, and calm that waits.
