Rough Surf

Robyn Kinsela

2024

watercolour, graphite, charcoal, collage

The pounding thrust of huge waves is awesome, even mesmerising, never boring to watch.
This beauty and awe of our wild coastlines have brought many people, from land owners to rock fishermen, much grief as they ignore or disbelieve the might of nature. Houses, built on unstable ground, are falling into the ocean. As we see this devastation on the news, we also see attempts to thwart nature further by building retaining walls to attempt to protect from the pounding surf.
I want to acknowledge this universally compelling attraction of the ocean and its sometimes-wild behaviour by conveying a sense of disorder and chaos.
