Environmental degradation and attendant species loss with its multiplicity of causes like profligate water usage, unsustainable farming practices, spewing forth of chemicals, clearing of land engendering loss of habitat, concern me greatly.
Imagine a world without the delicate beauty of a native flower, shade of a majestic tree, forest to roam in, beautiful fluttering butterflies, the chorus of birdsong.
The Watcher reveals a hidden, anonymous face watching over the landscape. What is he thinking? Does he care about what he sees? This piece is a comment on the uncaring attitude of many people and the difficulty of changing vested interests. What we don’t see doesn’t concern us.
Layers of paper and other media engender subtlety and mystique and add visual depth, drawing in the viewer to a greater appreciation of the artistry and welcoming a closer inspection to promote a better understanding of the issues highlighted and hidden within.
