Shellac & Mica Ink on 640gsm Hot Pressed Paper

When I am among the trees….
they give off such hints of gladness.
I would almost say that they save me, and daily….
Mary Oliver

Decay Blooms appears as a flowering;
floating in shimmering gold,
its delicate tendrils are actually inverted tree roots.

I subvert the viewer’s gaze, to surprise and inspire. Decaying vegetation provides precious nutrients for new growth, and is central to ecosystem health.

The act of celebrating Tasmanian native forest decay (normally considered bad), and surrounding it in gold, references religious iconography and is an act of radical care.

I invite people to share their feelings of
When they are among the trees…
By posting their favourite trees to Instagram #When_I_am_among_the_trees

Drawn with calligraphy pens, and shellac-based inks on 640gsm hot pressed paper, builds up layers of translucent colour & metallic sheen with the vibrant golden glow amplifying the life-giving power of decay.
