Wilding – Spinifex Hill

reverse drawing on paper on board

There is a moment just before the sun slips down below the horizon when the last rays of heat spangle with the red dust to gleam golden the flowering spinifex. It is my favourite time of the day, this ethereal betwixting between horizon and sky, day and night.
I call it the wild-ing time, where country shakes off its droughty day crust and quickens in awakening, a shimmery celestial ballet celebrating the cool of night to come.

I’ve used reverse drawing into painted paper to convey the essence of the landscape, quick gestural scribing recreating the emotional response to the movement and energy before the day fades.
